David's Story

David is married with three girls but does not claim to understand women! David was brought up around photography with his international award-winning Uncle whom he was named after. In 1990 when travelling around the world David decided to spend some time with his Uncle in Australia to learn the ropes of the business. Even to this day David keeps a close eye on the Australian trends adapting ideas to bring new creativity to his customers in Shifnal.

Beginning his career in sports photography David covered national hockey in Canada, world championship gymnastics, formula 1 bikes and cars in both Australia and England, to name but a few. After gaining the technical and timing skills needed for sports coverage, he decided to move to portrait photography, to be more interactive with his subjects, and create rather than document images.

In David’s opinion traditional skills are something, which are being overlooked. Nowadays newcomers to the industry rely on digital to rectify mistakes, rather than using it purely as a tool for art. Yet those traditionally trained in film and darkroom techniques, such as David, use it to personalise images. The understanding of these rules allows them to produce award-winning images. David believes you never finish learning and although he has won several awards over his years in the business, he still attends courses to keep up with the latest technology.

He prides himself on being a people person and staff claim he has the powers to get inside his subjects head and hypnotise them into submission. Photography is one of those strange talents. You can learn the skills and the rules, yet to become an award-winning photographer like David part of your photography comes from your soul. A skill which cannot be taught is that you feel as well as see when to take the image. This is evident in his unique style of photography.

Although David has favourite photographers his inspiration and creativity comes from his clients, within himself, and from his surroundings. David believes each shoot should be personal to the client, not merely a production line. Everyone leaves with a glow, a smile on their face, and a few feet taller then when they arrived.

David is proud to have his name over the door, and while customers keep recommending us to friends, and family, and travelling from all over the world to be photographed by him, we know we are making their experience fun, and final product unique to each and everyone of them.
